Workshop on POCSO act and Child Right
As an integral part of the school initiative to reinforce awareness of child safety Fr. Maju Mathew Director of Childline Varanasi, conducted a detailed awareness building workshop on ‘Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) on 27 & 28 January for teaching staff and students of class IV- VIII. Fr. Maju reiterated the importance of the role played by educators in the safety and security of children. The teachers were also made aware about the various forms of sexual harassment that are often overlooked and the workshop also provided information to all the teachers on various preventive steps to be undertaken for identifying signs of abuse and the relevance of POCSO Act.
The purpose of organizing such workshops at school is to stay updated and ensure a safe environment for healthy nurturing. Creating a safe and secure school environment means a happy school for all children which is a vision of St. John’s Convent School Premdham, enabling the children to grow to have a strong foundation of values – so that they can use their minds in making healthy decisions and choices in life!
The resource person educated the participants on the importance of knowing these laws – The Child Rights – Right to Survival, Protection, Development, and Participation, Juvenile Justice Act and POCSO ACT – 2012 for prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and understand both psychological and legal implications of the Act.
It was evident by the extremely interactive session of the audience that the information imparted was well received.
